A complete distribution and control arrangement
This completed project by JPC Electrical & Automation Services brings several important electrical functions into one coordinated installation. Each of the four panels has a specific role, separating supply monitoring and protection, essential power, circuit distribution and lighting switching.
The result is a clearly defined arrangement where the purpose of each panel is easy to understand, both for day-to-day operation and future maintenance.
- Main distribution rating
- 250 A
- Dedicated panels
- 4
- Supply monitoring
- All 3 phases

1. Incoming supply: protection and a clear view of each phase
The incoming supply panel brings together the main supply-switching equipment, voltage protection, surge protection and electrical monitoring. It contains:
- An OVR module for voltage protection.
- A surge arrestor to help protect against transient voltage surges.
- A main contactor for switching the incoming supply.
- Separate voltage and current monitoring for each of the three phases.
The individual phase monitors make it possible to see the voltage and current on each phase directly at the panel, providing useful operating information without having to rely on a single overall reading.

2. Essential supply: generator changeover
A separate panel serves the essential circuits and includes a generator changeover arrangement. This allows those circuits to be supplied from the generator when required.
Keeping the essential supply in its own panel clearly identifies the circuits intended for generator supply and gives this part of the installation a dedicated function.
3. Main distribution: a 250 A panel for the outgoing circuits
The main distribution panel is rated at 250 A and supplies the individual outgoing circuits. It contains a combination of miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and residual current circuit breakers with overcurrent protection (RCBOs).
In simple terms, MCBs protect circuits against overloads and short circuits. RCBOs combine that protection with earth-leakage protection. The panel brings these circuit protective devices together in one distribution enclosure.
4. Lighting control: dedicated modular contactors
The fourth panel contains a series of modular contactors for controlling the lighting circuits. A contactor is an electrically operated switch that allows a control signal to switch the associated lighting circuit.
Grouping the lighting contactors in a dedicated panel keeps the lighting-switching equipment together and gives it a clearly identified place within the overall system.
The completed project
Together, the four panels provide incoming supply protection and monitoring, a generator changeover for essential circuits, 250 A main distribution and dedicated lighting control. Each enclosure has a clear purpose within the installation, making the overall arrangement easier to follow and service.
